The family of a farm worker who died after being brutally beaten by a mob in a violent clash has said they are “going to take you to the farm”.
The farm labourer, who had recently completed his 10th year as a farm labouger in Bihar, had been allegedly beaten by members of the community after his mother and father had refused to feed him, a case that has sparked outrage in the state.
But the family has claimed they are now going to take him to the village, in Jharkhand, to get a job.
Their daughter, a farm girl from Patna, told the Associated Press news agency that the family is not willing to accept the death of their only child, who was a “good and decent person”.
“We want him back on our farm and back with us,” said the girl, who gave her surname as Kukraj.
“I want him to go back and work.
If we cannot work on our own, then we will give him back to us,” she added.
The case has sparked a backlash from the government and farmers.
The Jharkshawan government said on Monday it was taking legal action against those responsible for the incident.
“There is no place for such acts in our society,” a government spokesperson said.
